How To Create a Beautiful Yoga Room: My Yoga Essentials

Yoga is so much fun and can enhance our spiritual, emotional, mental, and physical wellness. The key is to be consistent with it and do it regularly. I’m encouraging myself when I say that! :)

Included below are some of my favorite yoga items and gifts to give yogis. I’m a Registered Yoga Teacher and use these items often when practicing yoga.

In this list, I’m sharing what you could put in your home yoga room, especially to create a zen yoga atmosphere. This list is perfect if you’re wanting to make a yoga room at home or looking for yoga room ideas for a small home. By the way, many of these yoga items are also easy to travel with, so I love to take them with me on vacations and for many of the items, I even keep a second one in my car.

How do you decorate a small yoga room?

I know it’s not always feasible to have an entire room dedicated to yoga, so even dedicating a special corner or portion of a room can be a major upgrade. I think decorated corners are especially cute! When using an entire room to create an at-home yoga studio wasn’t an option, I have typically chosen a cute corner of the living room as a yoga studio.

Could I use my bedroom as a yoga space?

If you’ve read my blog post on Feng Shui then you know that I would not recommend using a bedroom. Basically, the bedroom is for sleeping, and items that don’t align with sleep are a distraction. Removing items that don’t align with sleep could be a good way to improve your sleep if you find it’s occasionally hard to fall asleep because your mind is elsewhere.

Once you have your room or space picked out, definitely make sure to keep your yoga space decluttered and be super intentional about the mood set in the space. I sometimes use my yoga space for other activities, but I’m sure to clean up and completely remove the unrelated items when I’m done. This way my dedicated yoga space is preserved.

What I’d Include:

Water Bottle

It’s important to stay hydrated throughout the day, especially while you’re engaging in physical activity.

Are you looking to reach your daily water intake goals, but not sure how much water to drink?

According to research, most men need 125 ounces (3.7 liters) while most women require 91 ounces (2.7 liters) of water each day. This includes the foods you eat.

Here are a couple of water bottles I love because you won’t have to fill them up more than 1-2 times a day in order to reach your daily water intake goal:

  1. 64 oz. (Half a Gallon) Glass Water Bottle with Organizing Sleeve

Highlights of this glass water bottle:

  • It’s eco-friendly because it’s a glass bottle

  • Fill it up twice throughout the day to meet your daily water intake goals (men and women)

  • Track your water intake using the timestamps on the bottle to help you reach your goal for the day

  • Has an organizing sleeve that can help with carrying the bottle and small items too

  • Straw included

2. 128 oz. (Full Gallon) Plastic Water Bottle

Highlights of this plastic water bottle:

  • You only need to fill it up once (same for men)

  • Has an easy to use carrying strap/handle

  • Features encouraging messages that keep you motivated

  • Includes timestamps on the bottle to help you stay on track throughout the day

  • Straw included

The downside is that this one is plastic and therefore not so eco-friendly. Also, I got used to the size, but please know that this water bottle is pretty huge since it holds an entire gallon of water. The straps definitely come in handy because of the bottle’s size. I love using the straps so much!

Yoga Mat

3. Yoga Design Lab Yoga Mat

This is one of my favorite yoga mats! I love this one because:

  • it’s so easy to travel with

  • looks amazing

  • is washer machine friendly

  • eco-friendly, non-toxic

I think the fact that it’s washer machine friendly is the biggest mind-blowing feature for me. I’ve washed this mat several times over the two years that I’ve had it. It still looks gorgeous and is super durable. They even have a kids’ version of this eco-friendly, non-toxic yoga mat!

Yoga Blocks and/or Yoga Straps

6. Yoga Blocks

7. Yoga Straps

Yoga blocks and yoga straps are good for supporting your yoga practice by making it more comfortable. Using yoga blocks and straps can also help with your body alignment and deepen your stretches. This is perfect for increasing flexibility and overall form.

Now let’s chat about some super cute items you can use to create your yoga aesthetic!

Meditation Cushions

Meditation cushions are both for the aesthetic and the enhancement of your yoga practice. They can be used as support somewhat similar to a block. It’s likely that your local yoga studio provides these meditation cushions in the form of a yoga bolster like this one. You can choose to specifically buy a bolster, or get a meditation cushion that is comfortable and super cute in the room.

One of my favorite brands to get meditation items from is Florensi. I have a couple of their meditation cushions. I typically get them in the same colors so that it’s aesthetically pleasing, especially in a room. I also love to keep my yoga cushions in a specific space, so I can meditate anytime without having to set them up all over again. Additionally, I love to travel with my yoga cushions because of the added support they can bring during my yoga practice. Florensi is amazing because the covers on their cushions can be easily removed and are washer machine friendly. After a long trip, I love to wash my meditation mat and cushion!

8. Florensi Meditation Mat

9. Florensi Meditation Cushion

10. Florensi Meditation Bamboo Bench

Crystals - Yoga Aesthetic

I love crystals because they are absolutely gorgeous AND have so many incredible healing benefits. Crystals can be placed in beautiful bowls, or they can stand alone to beautify a room.

New to crystals? Use your intuition to select a crystal, choose one that looks beautiful to you, OR choose benefits you’re seeking to determine which crystal can help. An example would be using rose quartz to amplify true love and self-love.

Blankets - Yoga Aesthetic

Blankets make wonderful yoga props and they are also my go-to during Shavasana. I love using blankets in my yoga space to technically improve form by providing additional support, but also to create comfy, relaxed vibes throughout my practice.

These make wonderful yoga blankets:

11. YogaDirect Solid Color Deluxe Yoga Blanket

I have the pink blanket. I use it as decor for a pop of color but also don’t feel bad throwing it in the closet, back of my car trunk or somewhere hidden away. It’s easy to wash too. It’s not super wide since it’s intended for yoga, but I do use this occasionally while watching movies or for outdoor picnics too!

12. Halfmoon Yoga Handwoven Blanket

The texture on this blanket is pretty chic. As the description mentions, it’s 100% cotton and perfect for yoga or other activities like traveling, camping, decor, etc.

I prefer to have yoga blankets in addition to decorative blankets because I feel comfortable taking the yoga blankets indoors or outdoors. I’m not so worried about it messing up or the blanket losing quality. As a matter of fact, I’ve taken my yoga blanket on boat trips, hiking, and other outdoor activities. It fits in my car, is thick, and is decent in size.

Any blanket can work if you’re comfortable using it in your yoga space, so I’ve also included these decorative blankets if you prefer something extra cute:

13. Barefoot Dreams CozyChic Blanket (leopard colors)

14. Barefoot Dreams CozyChic Blanket (solid colors)

Fresh Air and/or Aromatherapy - Yoga Aesthetic

It’s definitely important to have fresh air to breathe during yoga. This can mean being indoors or outdoors. I don’t really have a preference, although I will say that the fresh air from outdoors does feel AMAZING. Also, there are so many health and wellness benefits when immersing yourself in nature. I love the idea of combining the benefits of yoga and nature to maximize my overall experience!

Also, consider using essential oils during your yoga practice. There are multiple ways to use essential oils, especially during your yoga practice. I enjoy using a diffuser in rooms. Additionally, it can be very relaxing to use essential oils on your body. Just make sure the essential oil is one that is safe to use on your body.

Not sure what essential oil to select? Essential oils can be selected based on the benefits you desire or the smells you prefer. Explore your favorite scents and let me know what you recommend! I have a small variety of few I routinely use. Right now I enjoy peppermint, eucalyptus, and some citrus blends.

15. 500ml Aromatherapy Diffuser 7 Color Changes

16. VIVITEST Ceramic Essential Oil Diffuser

Lastly, you can burn candles or natural plant-based materials like sage or palo santo to smudge your space.

Positive Affirmations - Yoga Aesthetic

Using affirmations throughout the day can be empowering. I enjoy placing positive affirmations around my space because they are cheerful reminders. This is also really perfect during yoga because if desired I can choose an affirmation to meditate on during my yoga practice.

Natural Lighting - Yoga Aesthetic

I love doing yoga in rooms with big windows that allow natural sunlight to come in. If I can do yoga near water (including pools) or outside then that’s even better.

That’s it!
