Healthy Snacks: Easy Protein and Fiber Pairs | Well With Brielle

Healthy snacks can be easy, pretty and filling when you pair protein with fiber.

The American Medical Association suggests pairing protein, fiber and healthy fats with foods that have plenty of volume for snacks that keep you satisfied. So if that works for your needs, you can build your snack plate the same way: start with a protein, then add a fiber.

Here are good healthy snacks with the brands I recommend, easy protein and fiber pairs and a cozy protein oats bowl you can make warm or overnight

Why Protein and Fiber Belong Together

My favorite healthy snacks pair protein with fiber.

For example, Greek yogurt and meat sticks are snacks high in protein and cheese adds more, while fruit, seeds and oats bring fiber.

In other words, pair one from each group and your snack feels more complete.

Hemp hearts are also a favorite: 365 Organic Hulled Hemp Seed is my pick, and Manitoba Harvest is a swap at Whole Foods or Amazon.

Finally, Greek yogurt: FAGE Total Plain is my pick, with Giant plain Greek yogurt as a swap, so one tub covers several healthy high protein snacks.

Easy Healthy Snacks: Protein and Fiber Pairs

These healthy easy snacks come together quickly, so choose the pair that fits your day. First, cheese and plums: slice Dubliner beside a ripe plum for a pretty plate.

For healthy snacks for work, toss a meat stick and a fruit pouch in your bag.

Next, Greek yogurt, kiwi and chia seeds: spoon yogurt into a bowl, add sliced kiwi and finish with chia.

Peanut butter and nectarine is another sweet and salty bite, so spread peanut butter on the slices.

Above all, hemp hearts work with almost anything, adding extra protein to yogurt, oats or fruit. [photo within text]

Protein Oats Bowl, Warm or Overnight

This protein oats recipe brings the whole list together: high protein oats, flaxseed meal, chia seeds, hemp hearts, peanut butter and fresh fruit.

For the warm version, first cook half a cup of protein oats with one cup of water or milk until creamy. Then stir in a spoonful each of flaxseed meal and chia seeds, and top with hemp hearts, peanut butter and sliced fruit.

For protein overnight oats, stir half a cup of protein oats with three quarters of a cup of milk, a spoonful of chia seeds and a spoonful of flaxseed meal in a jar. Next, chill the jar overnight, then top with hemp hearts, peanut butter and fruit in the morning.

Use these amounts as a starting point and adjust to your taste. [photo within text]

Healthy Snacks FAQ

What makes healthy snacks for adults filling? Pairing protein, fiber and healthy fats is the approach the American Medical Association suggests, because each one adds something different.

Can I prep these healthy snacks ahead? Yes, so portion cheese, wash fruit and stir together the overnight oats recipe above for an easy grab and go option.

Which healthy work snacks travel best? A meat stick with a fruit pouch is shelf stable, so both tuck easily into a bag.
