It’s always a great time to enhance your wellness or create self care routines! With a new year, people are oftentimes more motivated and eager to recommit to their goals. Do you create new years resolutions?

Whether you’re starting to develop healthy habits or looking to hit the reset button on old wellness routines, these ideas for health and wellness goals will help!

Included below are also a few worksheets to help you organize your thoughts and create SMART goals.

Ready to define your wellness goal?

A wellness goal is any plan or desire that promotes increased wellbeing and health. Wellness consists of at least 7 dimensions. That means it’s more than just working out or eating healthy.

Babes, I wanted to touch on wellness goals from various wellness dimensions because we need a complete picture in order to live a healthy lifestyle. For instance, perhaps you workout but barely eat any vegetables and sleep poorly. In this instance, you’d have the opportunity to make nutrition and sleep goals that can enhance your lifestyle.

Here’s a worksheet to help you brainstorm some ideas:

Below are some ideas for wellness goals to help get you started. I’ve made a list of healthy habits that you can do more of and a list of habits that you may want to do less.

DO MORE:

  • dream and plan

Allow your imagination to run wild and then see where it goes. How does the thought of whatever you’re dreaming about making you feel? If you truly want something then make a plan and start working towards it.

Maybe you will create more plant based recipes or perhaps you don’t enjoy cooking but will seek out healthy plant based restaurants and easy store bought options. Figure out what your style of meal prepping is and commit to healthy meals at least a few times a week.

  • 10,000 steps a day AHA

On Instagram, you’ll often find that I’m posting about taking wellness walks and trying to reach my daily goal of 10,000 steps. Getting steps is an easy way to encourage movement throughout the day. Have you ever tried to reach this daily goal? Depending on your lifestyle it does require you to intentionally go walking. During the warmer months, I like to use this as an opportunity to explore local parks or even go hiking!

  • water intake

When I drink enough water daily I feel energized, less bloated and very light. Hydration is a good feeling, babes.

  • meditation - regularly

There are SO many benefits of meditation. The biggest one that comes to mind is that it’s a great stress reduction technique. Practicing mindfulness and the beginner’s mind are some of my favorite ways to meditate regularly. If you’ve never meditated then start with a guided meditation or attend one of our hiking events where we practice a few methods of meditation.

  • sleep

Your body does best when it’s on a sleeping routine. That means you generally are able to wake up and go to bed around the same time every night. It’s also important that you get enough sleep. It’s possible to get too much sleep and it’s possible to get too little sleep. Both can have a negative impact on your health.

  • self care

This looks different for everyone and varies depending on what you need. Sometimes it’s something to pamper yourself with and other times it’s about doing the hard work. Either way, you will feel good if you consistently take time to care for yourself.

  • a few self care ideas: create a daily beauty or hygiene routine ((see my fav products here)), see an expert for your health, beauty or some other aspect you’d like to enhance, commit to a daily routine or practice, try a new activity

  • create a consistent workout schedule throughout the week

Write out what days and times you will work out. Use a digital online tracker or your favorite journal. It’s important to also note approximately how long you will workout and what you plan to do as your workout activity. Have a plan and try to stick to it!

  • seek social opportunities with people you want to spend time with

This could be with loved ones like family or friends. It could even mean finding more networking events related to your hobbies, personal development or business interests. It’s crucial to surround yourself with people that make you feel good and support your vision of what you want your life to be.

Once you’ve chosen a wellness goal or area to focus on then it’s time to write the goal down. Writing commits information to our memory and allows us to fully believe it’s real or important.

MAYBE DO LESS:

And I say maybe because you are the captain of your life. Everything on this list below might be okay in moderation. It’s up to you to decide how much is too much if any at all.

  • salt and sugar in your foods

Both salt and sugar contribute to unhealthy conditions like heart disease and diabetes. Even if you’re not adding it to your foods you will want to read your food labels to see what is included in everything you eat and drink. It’s about reducing your sugar and salt intake, but also looking for real ingredients. Want an examples of ‘real’ sugar versus unhealthy added sugar? Read more about added sugars here.

  • complaining and comparison

If you’re spending your time complaining or comparing your life to others then you’re stealing your own joy. Stop complaining and instead show gratitude. If you truly cannot think of anything in this present moment to be grateful for then write about being grateful for the things you desire. By writing as if you already have these things and are grateful it will naturally boost your mood. Some people use methods like this as a law of attraction tactic too!

Comparison happens a lot and I hear SO many people blaming social media. Even offline you may find yourself comparing your hair or outfit to another person in your yoga class or the coworker down the hall. It happens, but how you perceive it can change everything. The next time you find yourself wanting something that someone else has to try these

  • using body products with bad ingredients #cleanbeauty

All natural products are those that only include clean ingredients. The ingredients are usually easy to read and understand. Most clean beauty products are also labeled as such. Always read the ingredients list and do your research if you’re not sure what you’re looking at.

  • drinking alcohol

I’m all about having a good time and maybe a drink is an occasional component of your self care routine. Certain types of alcohol can even have health benefits. Be mindful of your alcohol intake and make honest adjustments as needed. It’s extra calories and can really slow you down. Remember this is a ‘maybe do less’ list and not a stop cold turkey list.

What other wellness goals or healthy habits will you work on, babes?
